The concept of the Association for the Study of Classical African
Civilization (ASCAC) culminated in 1984 with the first national meeting at Los Angles Southwest Community
College. Strong scholars from all over the country came together to form this umbrella organization designed to
build African-Centered study groups and further strengthen existing African
institutions.
